Primary

 

A primary is held when two or more candidates from the same party are vying for a single nomination.

 

To qualify for a primary, a candidate who is not endorsed by his or her party's convention must collect a certain number of signatures (depending on the office sought) or win at least 15% of the convention delegates.

 

This year, the primary will be held on August 8th.
