Dan Malloy, mayor of Stamford, defeated John DeStefano, mayor of New Haven, by four votes to capture the nomination at the Democratic State Convention on May 20th.

However, DeStefano narrowly defeated Malloy 51%-49%, a margin of about 4,000 votes, in the August 8th primary. DeStefano will face Gov. Rell in the November general election.
